چکیده

Abstract Objectives Omega-3 (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are essential in fetal growth and development have been shown to modulate inflammatory processes throughout the lifespan. Previous studies demonstrated that individuals with lower socioeconomic status (SES) may be at risk for low intake of n-3 PUFAs, however, no research has compared concentrations these nutrients present maternal cord serum between markers SES. The purpose this study is assess relationship SES levels PUFAs a group patients delivering Midwest Academic Medical Center. Methods An IRB-approved enrolled mother-infant pairs (n = 55) time delivery collection samples. PUFA quantified included Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), Docosahexaenoic (DHA), total PUFAs. Markers include private vs public insurance, income ≤ 150% poverty line > 150%, college degree earners degree. Mann-Whitney U test was used differences groups. A P < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results Median gestational age 39.3 weeks. Significantly higher nutrient were college-educated mothers less than median EPA (9.44 µg/mL 5.13 µg/mL, p 0.010), (1.88 1.40 0.011), DHA (37.96 32.80 0.014), (44.23 39.34 0.024). significantly those insurance (1.79 1.18 0.022). Additionally, 1.10 0.030). Conclusions Our findings suggest pregnancy, which could increase their susceptibility adverse birth pregnancy outcomes. Future should focus on replicating results larger, more heterogeneous sample consider analyzing additional Funding Sources UNMC Pediatrics Department; Child Health Research Institute.

Evaluation of the Relationship between Endometriosis and Omega-3 and Omega-6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids

Background: Endometriosis is a common chronic inflammation causing major problems including infertility. The role of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as their potential anti-inflammatory effects in endometriosis needs to be further explored. The objective of this study was to compare serum phospholipid fatty acid profile in endometriosis patients with controls, and to explore the correlation of ...

Hormonal and metabolic effects of polyunsaturated fatty acid (omega-3) on polycystic ovary syndrome induced rats under diet

Objective(s): PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old). It is thought to be one of the leading causes of female subfertility. This study aimed to confirm the role of nutrition containing omega-3 (polyunsaturated fatty acid) on control of experimental PCO induced by estradiol-valerat in rats. Materials and Method...

Dietary alpha-linolenic acid enhances omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid levels in chicken tissues.

The effects of enriching broiler chicken diets with a vegetable source of n-3 fat in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, 18:3n-3) on the accumulation of n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) in chicken meat were investigated. Sixty unsexed one-day-old broiler chickens (Cobb 500) were randomly allocated to one of six diets (n=10 birds/diet) for 4 weeks. The ALA levels varied fro...

Omega-3 polyunsaturated essential fatty acid status as a predictor of future suicide risk.

OBJECTIVE Low levels of docosahexaenoic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid, and elevated ratios of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids are associated with major depression and, possibly, suicidal behavior. Predicting risk of future suicidal behaviors by essential fatty acid status merits examination. METHOD Plasma polyunsaturated fatty acid levels in phospholipids were measured in 33 medication-free ...
